The University of Lincoln’s Lincoln Institute for Rural and Coastal Health (LIRCH) officially launched at the Campus for Future Living in Mablethorpe, on Friday 18 July 2025.
The event marked the start of an exciting chapter for rural and coastal health research in Lincolnshire. The Campus will provide a coastal base for LIRCH to work alongside other partners such as Clip (Community Learning in Partnership), LCVP (Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Partnership) and more, delivering services and creating opportunities for local communities.
Professor Sir Chris Whitty, Chief Medical Officer for England, spoke at the event, recognising his longstanding support for improving health in rural and coastal areas.
Claire Woodward, Director of Community Investment at Acis said, “We’re incredibly proud to be involved in LIRCH’s launch and to see the University of Lincoln’s commitment to improving health and wellbeing for people living in rural and coastal areas. The Campus for Future Living is providing a unique opportunity to influence health and wellbeing not only here in Mablethorpe but across Lincolnshire and the wider UK. By working together with partners like LIRCH, we can bring new services, research, and opportunities to communities who often face additional health challenges and make a real difference to people’s lives.”
Mark Gussy from LIRCH added:
“We’re thrilled to be part of the Campus for Future Living, working alongside so many passionate partners who are committed to supporting rural and coastal communities. This launch is just the beginning of an exciting journey, and we look forward to seeing the real impact our research can make, whether that’s improving services, influencing national policy, or supporting people locally to live healthier lives. We’re excited about what the future holds as we work together to create lasting change.”
The Campus for Future Living is open to the community Monday to Friday and offers a range of services and facilities, including the Wayfinder Cafe and a range of space available for hire.
